Video: "Migratory Tarpon" of Tarpon Cay Lodge

Nestled in the remote northern Yucatan town of San Felipe is Tarpon Cay Lodge. Tarpon Cay Lodge is the jumping off point for an incredible fishery for Tarpon, or "Sabalo" as translated in Spanish. This video shows the average sized migratory Tarpon of this fishery (40 - 80 pounds), and also includes a few "blooper" moments. Fish On!

Video: "Loco Sabalito" (Isla Blanca)

Fly fishing for baby Tarpon at Isla Blanca can be pure mayhem at times. Watch this crazed baby Tarpon as it runs this angler in circles around the boat and into the mangroves. Amazingly, the Tarpon is finally brought to hand after this wild duel. "Loco Sabalito" = Crazy Baby Tarpon!

Video: More Underwater Footage at Isla del Sabalo

Here is another raw clip of underwater video footage while fishing at Isla del Sabalo... I am quite new to this underwater video scene, but you can be sure that I will keep sharing this incredible perspective. Wow, seeing fish from beneath the surface is so much more captivating than viewing them from above. More to come tomorrow... we will be fishing at Isla Blanca and will try to get underwater footage of Permit, baby Tarpon, and other species. Wish us luck!

Underwater footage of a baby Tarpon landed at Isla del Sabalo

Here is a raw video clip of a baby Tarpon caught and released in one of the rios at Isla del Sabalo. We fished there two day this past week and some of the rivers were quite full of active baby Tarpon. What we discovered is that, as much as baby Tarpon are a creature of beauty when landed, they are even more awesome to admire when they are in their underwater world. Check out this interesting footage...

On-The-Water: Isla del Sabalo Snook Video

I am down in the Yucatan right now with Marco Ruz of Yucatan Fly Fishing Adventures. We just returned from our video shoot and fishing trip to Isla del Sabalo. We captured some nice video footage of baby Tarpon and Snook being landed on the fly. Here is a raw clip of some continuous footage of Marco landing a nice Snook.

I will be adding more footage in the next posts... including some very nice underwater footage of Tarpon. Fish On!

Video: 7 Minutes of Yucatan Mayhem!

This video is a continuous and uncut 7 minutes of Tarpon action at Isla del Sabalo. Fishing was conducted with blunted hook point on the fly - the intent was to "tease" the Tarpon into grabbing the fly, only to be pulled away or released with slack in the fly line. It shows the remarkable fishing potential and amazing density of willing Tarpon that can inhabit the flats of this remote region of the Yucatan. This is Angling On The Fly's newest offering in the Yucatan. Fish On!

Video: The Newest Frontier for Yucatan Tarpon

This action-packed video footage displays the incredible Tarpon fishing opportunities at Isla del Sabalo. This majestic fishing destination resides in a remote region of the Yucatan and is home to healthy populations of resident Tarpon that range in size from 5 - 35+ pounds. The environs of this fishery include extensive mangrove-lined rivers and creeks, protected lagoons, and vast clear-water flats. Enjoy and Fish On!

During our angling pursuits around the world, we sometimes encounter some of the craziest events. Often, they are just stories to be told as folklore or myth... this time, we have proof that sometimes "the fishing was so good, fish jumped into the boat!" This is a video clip while Jeff Mueller of Fly Fisherman Magazine was fishing with us at Isla Blanca. Fish On!

Video: Tarpon Cay Lodge with Gary and Jason Borger

Gary and Jason Borger produced this informative video piece on Tarpon Cay Lodge. This father-son team had a wonderful trip and experienced all that Tarpon Cay Lodge has to offer for Yucatan Tarpon. During their week of fishing, they had incredible fishing for "baby" Tarpon of 5 - 20 pounds and migratory Tarpon up to 100 pounds! The video also features Lee Haskin, a Targus fly designer that has developed a variety of effective flies for this destination. Together they had an incredible experience fly fishing for the "Silver King"... enjoy!
